v1.2.0-rc.1
Released: May 28, 2026
The first release candidate on the 1.2 track. This cut brings a reworked Tool Manager, inline editing for Secret and ConfigMap data, a new supported AI client, and a long list of Kubernetes and desktop fixes. Install from the kunobi-unstable channel to try it; the stable track is unchanged.
What's New
- New Warm theme — a softer, cream-toned palette is now selectable in Settings → Appearance, alongside the existing themes. Give Kunobi a warmer look that's easier on the eyes during long sessions.
- Unified Tool Manager — Settings → Tools is now a single place to detect, install, and manage CLI tools. Tools on your
PATHare detected without requiring mise, extensions can declare their own tool dependencies, and the AI panel shows which CLI agents you have installed along with their version and install status. - Edit Secret & ConfigMap data inline — press
i(or use the new "Edit Data" action) to edit a resource's.datadirectly from the action bar, without opening the side panel. - GitHub Copilot CLI support — connect Kunobi as an MCP server inside GitHub Copilot CLI, the latest supported AI agent.
- Log viewer mode chooser (Pro) — when you open logs on multiple resources, choose between a single merged multistream view or one viewer per resource.
Improvements
- Consistent Pro indicator — gated surfaces now share one clear Pro badge instead of several mismatched treatments.
- Crash reporting respects your consent — Kunobi sends an anonymous crash count when telemetry is enabled, and only sends a full crash report after you explicitly approve it.
- Refined app chrome — tighter, more consistent spacing across the sidebar, titlebar, and toolbars, with dividers aligned across every workspace variant.
Bug Fixes
- Accurate Cloud Providers tool status — tool source and install labels now match the Tool Manager. You can install a Kunobi-managed copy of any cloud CLI even when an external one already exists, switching a tool's source relaunches the correct binary, and the install state no longer flickers.
- No theme flash when resizing on macOS — resizing the window no longer flashes a light/dark band that mismatches your active theme.
- Clearer updater message when run from Downloads — Kunobi now detects macOS App Translocation and tells you to move it to Applications instead of failing silently.
- K8s drilldown no longer crashes on tab switch — switching between two tabs that are both drilled into resources keeps the view mounted.
- Cleaner multi-select actions — selecting resources with mixed suspend states only shows the action that applies to every selected row.
- Filter and selection behave in drilldown — filtering out the selected row now collapses the details sidebar (and restores it when the filter clears), and typing in the filter no longer leaks into the table.
- Cluster switch clears stale drilldown — changing the active cluster exits drilldown cleanly, with no leftover breadcrumb lingering over the "Connecting…" overlay.
- Terminals keep the right cluster context — reconnecting a local shell uses the currently active context, and your shell's startup files can no longer override Kunobi's
KUBECONFIG. - Settings sub-navigation stays in Settings — it no longer leaks above other tabs' content.
- Extension tool requirements refresh without a restart — updated extensions surface their tool dependencies immediately.
- Helm releases stay visible — Helm resources whose kind can't be resolved are no longer silently dropped from the view.
- Readable plan label on Home — the Token Usage card now shows a clean plan name instead of a raw slug.
Installation
This is an unstable release. To try it on Homebrew or winget, use the unstable identifiers:
brew install --cask kunobi-unstable
winget install kunobi-ninja.kunobi.Unstable
Existing installs on the stable channel are unaffected. You can also log in and download the unstable build directly, or update from within an existing unstable install.
